EXHIBITION “Facets of Berlin”

Die Geschichte und Entwicklung von Berlin üben eine einzigartige Faszination aus. Besondere Begeisterung erzeugen der Facettenreichtum und die Energie dieser Stadt. Der Schwerpunkt der Betrachtung fällt dabei zum größten Teil auf die Architektur, aber gelegentlich auch auf Landschaften. Jedes Gemälde wurde nach meinen Urban Sketches inspiriert.

Die Ausstellung „Facets of Berlin“ (Facetten von Berlin) wird hier in 4 Themenbereichen dargestellt: Reflexion, Blau, Kontraste und Urban Sketches.

• REFLEXION: Die Spree bleibt ruhig. Zu Beginn der Pandemie in 2020 standen wir vor einer Herausforderung: Wir waren isoliert und dachten viel nach. Die Kommunikation war eingeschränkt. Die Orte wurden ihrer Bewohner beraubt und die Landschaften blieben unbeweglich, wie in einem Traum. Unsere Reflexionen, unsere Gedanken wurden fast zu Realitäten. In meiner Serie “Bridge / Reflection” (Brücke / Reflexion) lade ich Sie ein, die Gedanken der Stadt zu entdecken, durch die Spiegelung im Wasser der Spree. Eine meditative Reise durch Berlin von Osten nach Westen, wo die Zeit stehen bleibt. Eine Brücke zwischen zwei Welten. Jedes Gemälde repräsentiert einen Saisonübergang: “Sunrise- Reflection Berlin” – der Herbst kommt, “Morning- Reflection Berlin” – der Frühling kommt, “Afternoon- Reflection Berlin” – der Sommer kommt, “Sunset- Reflection Berlin” – der Winter kommt. Hier werden der Stillstand und die Stille in der Stadt dargestellt. Eine Reflexion des Augenblicks, wo man mehr ins Wasser als in den Himmel schaut.
• Berlin ist eine Stadt der KONTRASTE. Sie sind allgegenwärtig, wie in dem Gemälde “Kirschblütenweg”, wo die düstere und heruntergekommene Seite unter der “Bösen Brücke” der romantischen und unbeschwerten Seite der Kirschblüten gegenübersteht. In der Geschichte Berlins finden sich viele harte Zeiten; heute steht die Hauptstadt trotz weiterer Schwierigkeiten mehr als je für Freiheit, Toleranz und Hoffnung. Ich mag die kreative Underground-Seite Berlins mit ihrer Street-Art-Szene, die versucht, trotz des Drucks der Gentrifizierung weiter zu bestehen. Das Gemälde “Baumhaus an der Mauer” erzählt von einem historischen und alternativen Ort, der an der Grenze zwischen zwei Welten lag. Das Werk spricht von der Natur in der Stadt und vom Widerstand gegen den Immobilienmarkt.
• „Berlin“ wie BLAU: Tauchen Sie ein in ein blaues Berlin für eine Auszeit, die zu Meditation anregt. Mit Leichtigkeit beruhigen diese Farben und führen uns eine andere Perspektive vor. In diesem Teil der Ausstellung finden Sie einige meiner Urban Sketches und Gemälde sowie mehrere Ansichten der Dachterrasse des Panorama-Punkts (Kollhoff Tower) am Potsdamer Platz, die ich dort im 25. Stockwerk gezeichnet habe.
• “URBAN SKETCHES bedeuten “Außenskizzen von der Stadt”, in denen direkt vor Ort, durch die Zeichnung, ein Moment festgehalten wird. In 2005 begann ich in den Straßen von Paris zu skizzieren.
  In meinen Skizzenbüchern sind viele Illustrationen aus Europa zu finden, hauptsächlich aber aus meiner Wahlheimat Berlin, wo ich seit 14 Jahren lebe. Meine Werke spiegeln Rhythmus und Bewegung wider. Sie beschäftigen sich mit der Mobilität, der Interaktivität und dem Kommunikationsfluss, die unsere heutige Gesellschaft kennzeichnen. Hier präsentiere ich meine Berliner Werke, die aus skizzierten, spontanen Linien bestehen.
  Ich erstelle das Porträt eines Hauses oder einer Stadt.

The history and development of Berlin exert a unique fascination. Particularly exciting are the multifacetedness and energy of this city. The observation’s focus is mainly placed on architecture, though occasionally also on landscapes. Each painting was inspired after my Urban Sketches. 

The exhibition “Facets of Berlin” is presented here in 4 subject areas: Reflection, Blue, Contrasts and Urban Sketches:

• REFLECTION: The Spree remains calm. In the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, we were facing a challenge: we were isolated and spend much time contemplating. Communication was limited. Places were emptied of their inhabitants and landscapes remained motionless, as if in a dream. Our reflections, our thoughts almost became realities. In my series “Bridge / Reflection”, I invite you to discover the thoughts of the city through reflections in the waters of the Spree. A meditative journey through Berlin from east to west, where time stands still. A bridge between two worlds. Each painting represents a seasonal transition: “Sunrise- Reflection Berlin” – autumn is coming, “Morning- Reflection Berlin” – spring is coming, “Afternoon- Reflection Berlin” – summer is coming, “Sunset- Reflection Berlin” – winter is coming. Here I portray the standstill and silence in the city. A reflection of the moment, where you look more into the water than into the sky.
• Berlin is a city of CONTRASTS. They are omnipresent, as in the painting “Kirschblütenweg”, where the gloomy and rundown side under the “Evil Bridge”  is juxtaposed with the romantic and carefree side of the cherry blossoms. Berlin’s history is marked by many difficult times; today, despite continuing challenges, the city more than ever stands for freedom, tolerance and hope. I like the creative ‘underground’ side of Berlin with its street art scene, which tries to hold on despite the pressures of gentrification. The painting “Baumhaus an der Mauer” tells of a historical and alternative place that stood on the border between two worlds. The work speaks of nature in the city and of the resistance against the real estate market.
• “Berlin” like BLUE. Immerse yourself in a blue Berlin for a reprieve that encourages meditation. With lightness these colors calm us and show us another perspective. In this part of the exhibition, you will find some of my urban sketches and paintings, as well as some views of the Panorama Punkt roof terrace (Kollhoff Tower) in Potsdamer Platz, which I drew there on the 25th floor.
• URBAN SKETCHES means “outside sketches of the city”, in which a moment is captured directly on location, through drawing. In 2005 I started drawing in the streets of Paris. My sketchbooks contain numerous illustrations of Europe, but especially of Berlin, my adopted city where I have been living for 14 years. My works reflect rhythm and movement. They engage with the mobility, interactivity and flow of communication that characterize our society today.
  Here I present my Berlin works which are composed of sketched, spontaneous lines. I create the portrait of a house or a city.

L’histoire et le développement de Berlin exercent une fascination unique. Les multiples facettes et l’énergie de cette ville sont particulièrement passionnantes. L’observation se concentre principalement sur l’architecture, mais aussi parfois sur les paysages. Chaque tableau a été inspiré par mes croquis urbains.

L’exposition “Facettes de Berlin” est présentée ici en 4 thèmes : Réflexion, Bleu, Contrastes et Croquis urbains:

• RÉFLEXION : La Spree reste calme. Au début de la pandémie en 2020, nous étions confrontés à un défi : nous étions isolés et passions beaucoup de temps à contempler. La communication était limitée. Les lieux étaient vidés de leurs habitants et les paysages restaient immobiles, comme dans un rêve. Nos réflexions, nos pensées devenaient presque des réalités. Dans ma série “Bridge / Reflection” (Pont/  Réflexion), je vous invite à découvrir les pensées de la ville à travers les reflets dans les eaux de la Spree. Un voyage méditatif à travers Berlin d’est en ouest, où le temps s’arrête. Un pont entre deux mondes. Chaque tableau représente une transition saisonnière : “Sunrise- Reflection Berlin” – l’automne arrive, “Morning- Reflection Berlin” – le printemps arrive, “Afternoon- Reflection Berlin” – l’été arrive, “Sunset- Reflection Berlin” – l’hiver arrive. Ici, je représente l’immobilité et le silence de la ville. Une réflexion sur l’instant présent.
• Berlin est une ville de CONTRASTES. Ils sont omniprésents, comme dans le tableau “Kirschblütenweg”, où le côté lugubre et délabré sous le pont “Böse Brücke” est juxtaposé au côté romantique et insouciant des cerisiers en fleurs. L’histoire de Berlin est marquée par de nombreuses périodes difficiles ; aujourd’hui, malgré les défis persistants, la ville est plus que jamais synonyme de liberté, de tolérance et d’espoir. J’aime le côté créatif et “underground” de Berlin, avec sa scène street-art, qui tente de se maintenir malgré les pressions de la gentrification. La peinture “Baumhaus an der Mauer” parle d’un lieu historique et alternatif qui se trouvait à la frontière entre deux mondes. L’œuvre parle de la nature dans la ville et de la résistance contre le marché immobilier.
• « Berlin » comme BLEU : Plongez dans un Berlin bleu pour un répit qui incite à la méditation. Avec légèreté, ces couleurs nous apaisent et nous montrent une autre perspective. Dans cette partie de l’exposition, vous trouverez quelques-uns de mes croquis et peintures urbaines, ainsi que des vues du toit-terrasse du Panorama Punkt (Tour Kollhoff) à Potsdamer Platz, que j’ai dessinées au 25e étage.
• URBAN SKETCHES signifie “croquis en plein air”, dans lesquels un moment est capturé directement sur place (dans la rue), à travers le dessin. En 2005, j’ai commencé à croquer dans les rues de Paris. Mes carnets de croquis contiennent de nombreuses illustrations d’Europe, mais surtout de Berlin, ma ville d’adoption où je vis depuis 14 ans. Mes œuvres reflètent le rythme et le mouvement. Elles s’engagent avec mobilité, l’interactivité et le flux de communication qui caractérisent notre société actuelle.
  Je présente ici mes œuvres berlinoises, composées de lignes esquissées et spontanées. Je crée le portrait d’une maison ou d’une ville.
