Poster Ernst-Thälmann-Denkmal Berlin
The Poster Ernst-Thälmann Berlin represents a statue (Denkmal = monument) of the communist politician Ernst Thälmann, in the Ernst-Thälmann-park.
I drew this urban sketch on the 20th of March 2017 directly at the location in Berlin-Prenzlauerberg (Pankow).
As a technique I applied wash drawing (ink and water). And the artistic tools that I used for the Poster Ernst-Thälmann Berlin are:
- a sketchbook Another Next® in black leither (Soft Paper, Format 22 x 16 cm – 8,6 ” x 6,3″-, 125 g/m2 – 427 lb.in2-)
- a calligraphic pen (“Pilot Parallel Pen”- 2.4 mm)
- a fineliner Staedtler® pigment liner 0.1
- a fineliner Faber-Castell® PITT artist pen black 199***
- 2 paint brushes (fine and medium) and water
- watercolor
- dry pastels
- chalk
I was sitting on a piece of wall, front of this bronze statue. This park is located between the roads Greifswalder Straße and Danziger Str.
Coincidentally was at this time a shopping cart (left of the illustration) on the other side of the statue. Like the capitalism facing the communism.
Ernst-Thälman is represented like a permanent of revolutionary. The memorial has been sculpted between 1981 and 1986 by Lew Kerbel. Moreover this is a souvenir of the GDR time with the sovietic culture during the Berliner Wall. It’s called the “Ostalgie”.
A gas works, called “IV. Berliner Gasanstalt”, was between 1873 and 1981 in this parc. And at the same time they exploded the fabric, they built some prefabricated social buildings. We can see them of the illustration in the background.
The illustration of the Poster Ernst-Thälmann Berlin is also on my blog “Traversée d’Encres”.
