Description
Big Poster Stop Wars Berlin
The Poster Stop Wars Berlin is panoramic (54 x 20 cm / 21,26 x 7,87 inches) and represents the ” Haus der Statistik ” with the graffiti “STOP WARS” in Red. It´s the same typography of Star Wars. A block east of Alexanderplatz (“Alles anders Platz” is written on the building), sits this dirty grey-white facade with 540,000 square foot complex is made up of three adjoining buildings, the tallest of which is 11 stories of broken Windows.
.
I drew this urban sketch on the 6th of September 2021 directly at the location (crossroads of the 3 central East Berlin districts: Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain). : map
As a technique I applied wash drawing (ink + water). And as artistic tools I used for the Poster Stop Wars Berlin:
- a big black panoramic sketchbook “Hahnemühle” that I began in 2018 (Format 21 x 29,7 cm – 8,27″ x 11,69″-, ca. 180 g/m2 -1.4223 lb.in2-)
- a calligraphic pen (“Pilot Parallel Pen”- 2.4 mm)
- fineliner Staedtler® (0,05 and 0,1)
- 2 paint brushes (fine and medium)
- watercolor and white dry pastel
I was sitting on the grass, in the middle, between the big avenue of Karl-Marx-Allee.
The imposing concrete structure, completed in 1970, is full of history. Located in what was once East Germany, it was used as a federal statistics office first by the government of the German Democratic Republic, and then, after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, by the reunified German government. Vacated in 2008, it has left a ghostly shell.
